Central, S.C. – The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team escaped a scare from Southern Wesleyan University with a 65-60 victory on Friday evening in Central, S.C.

FIRST QUARTER
- UMO opened a 10-4 lead just shy of the midway point of the opening period on a layup by senior Daria Simmons with 5:30 left on the clock.
- After a layup by Southern Wesleyan that cut the Trojans' lead to 10-6, UMO ran away on a 9-0 run capped off by a layup by junior Ni'Ya Styles that gave Mount Olive a 19-6 advantage with 2:26 remaining in the period.
- The Trojans and Warriors traded baskets in the final two minutes as UMO took a 23-10 lead into the second quarter.
SECOND QUARTER
- SWU turned the tables on the Trojans in the second frame running off six-straight points to open the quarter and cut the Warriors' deficit to just seven at 23-16 with 8:07 left on the clock.
- The Trojans regained a double-digit lead with 5:43 remaining in the period on a three by Styles that gave UMO a 31-21 advantage.
- Quickly responding, SWU assembled a 7-0 run to trim Mount Olive's lead to just three at 31-28 with 2:41 to play in the first half as the Trojans entered the break with just a five point lead at 37-32.
THIRD QUARTER
- A three by junior Felecity Havens with 6:29 remaining on the clock gave the Trojans a nine-point advantage at 46-37.
- As was true most of the evening, Southern Wesleyan had an answer for UMO, as the Warriors stormed back to cut the Trojans' lead to just one at 50-49 in the waning seconds of the third period.
FOURTH QUARTER
- With SWU within one at 57-56 with just 6:25 left in regulation, Havens scored the next six points for UMO to provide the Trojans with a 63-58 cushion with 1:58 remaining on the clock.
- SWU made it a one possession game with 52 seconds, but Styles toed the free-throw line in the final seconds and knocked down a pair of free throws to secure a 65-60 victory for UMO.
KEY STATS
- Havens led the Trojans with 23 points while also chipping in 13 boards and four assists.
- Also in double figures for UMO were Simmons (16), Styles (14), and Kiara Jones (10).
- Fresh off a 21 rebound performance against Erskine on Tuesday night, Kiara Jones added 16 rebounds to go along with her 10 points in the win.
- The Conference Carolinas assist leader, junior Rachel Fehl provided eight assists in the victory.
- UMO outshot SWU, 35.1% to 31.0%, and outrebounded the Warriors, 53-42.

- The win increases the Trojans' win streak to seven games equaling UMO's longest this season.
