MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team defeated the Falcons of Saint Augustine's University 99-64 on Wednesday evening at Kornegay Arena in Mount Olive, N.C.

How It Happened
Play-by-Play
FIRST QUARTER
- Mount Olive scored the first eight points of the game before Saint Augustine's even got on the board at the 7:37 mark.
- SAU pulled within four points (10-6) before UMO went on a 12-4 run that closed out the first quarter with the score sitting at 22-10.
SECOND QUARTER
- The Trojans continued to grow their lead scoring the first eight points of the quarter going up by 20 points.
- A layup in the seventh minute ended the Falcon drought but the relentless Trojans continued pushing going on an 8-3 run increasing their lead to 25 (40-15).
- Two free throws (5:12) for SAU started a small run by the Falcons who outscored the Trojans 14-5 over the next four minutes.
- UMO in the final minute scored six points including a buzzer-beater three-point shot by Styles that gave the Trojans a 20 point advantage heading into halftime leading 51-31.
THIRD QUARTER
- Mount Olive went on a 16-6 run in the first six minutes of the quarter.
- UMO grew their lead to 30 points (67-37) on a layup by Felecity Havens at the four and a half minute mark.
- The Trojans led 74-37 at 2:51 before the Falcons went on a 10-7 run closing out the third quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Saint Augustine's opened the scoring in the fourth quarter on a pair of baskets to put the score at 81-51 trailing Mount Olive by 30.
- UMO went on an 8-2 run that gave them an 89-53 lead with just under five minutes to play.
- SAU outscored UMO in the final four minutes 12-10 but the Falcons fell short as the Trojans picked up their first win of the 2017-18 season 99-64.
KEY STATS
- Ni'Ya Styles had 22 points on the night with 20 coming in the first half alone as she completed eight of 15 shot attempts in the opening two quarters.
- Jada Bacchus recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
- Kennedi Jones totaled 16 points making eight of 11 shots and added six rebounds.
NOTES
- Five Trojans were in double-digits against the Falcons.
- UMO out rebounded SAU 54-41 overall and recorded 10 more defensive rebounds than the Falcons (36-26).
