MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team defeated the Tornado of King University, 89-87, in overtime Conference Carolinas action on Friday evening at Kornegay Arena in Mount Olive, N.C. Senior Ni'Ya Styles recorded a career-high 40 points in the overtime thriller.

Play-by-Play
FIRST QUARTER
- Mount Olive broke an early four-point tie going on a 17-5 run opening a double-digit lead over the Tornado to lead 21-9 through the first ten minutes.
SECOND QUARTER
- The Tornado fought their way back through the first five minutes of the second quarter to trail by four, 25-21 before the Trojans took off on an 11-3 run as they headed into halftime with the 36-24 lead.
THIRD QUARTER
- UMO held an average lead of eight points over the first five minutes of the third quarter, but King closed the gap to two points, 51-49, with under a minute to play.
- The Trojans scored five unanswered points in the final minute to hold a six-point lead, 55-49, heading into the fourth.
FOURTH QUARTER
- King came back in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter to take their first lead of the game, 61-59, since the first quarter.
- The teams traded points over the following 90 seconds until the Trojans went up by three, 66-63, at the 4:56 mark.
- Mount Olive grew their lead to six points, but King came back to tie the game at 74 all with 11 seconds to force an overtime period.
OVERTIME
- The teams did not disappoint as they fought for control of the score with neither team holding more than a two-point lead through the five minute overtime period.
- Ni'Ya Styles broke the 87-87 tie with a layup just before the buzzer to prevent a second overtime period and give the Trojans their first win of the New Year.
KEY STATS
- Ni'Ya Styles led the Trojans with a career-high 40 points as she shot 14-32 from the field, 8 of 17 from behind the three-point arc and a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.
- Felecity Havens tallied 19, and Jada Bacchus added 17 on the night.
- UMO recorded 11 steals to King's eight which contributed to a 32-22 lead for the Trojans in points scored off of turnovers.
