Trojans Fall In Conference Carolinas Quarterfinals To King Tornado

BRISTOL, TENN. – The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team fell 85-75 against the King University Tornado in the quarterfinals of the 2018 Conference Carolinas women's basketball tournament on Monday night in Bristol, Tenn. Felecity Havens led all scorers with 31 points on the night as the Trojans season came to a close.

How It Happened
Play-by-Play

FIRST QUARTER

  • Havens opened the game scoring the first basket but King responded with a 6-0 lead to hold the 6-2 advantage at the 6:30 mark.
  • Mount Olive tied it up at six-all 30 seconds later and went point for point with the Tornado through much of the first quarter as the score tied up six times over the remaining six minutes as the Trojans held the slim, 20-18 lead heading into the second quarter.

SECOND QUARTER

  • The Tornado opened the second quarter on a 7-0 run taking the five-point lead, 25-20, to the 7:18 mark.
  • UMO answered back over the next 90 seconds with an 8-3 spurt that tied the game at 28 all.
  • The teams remained neck-and-neck through the last four and a half minutes of the second quarter with the score tying four times to sit 36 all at the half.

THIRD QUARTER

  • King went on a 5-0 run to start the third quarter going up 41-36 with 7:27 on the clock.
  • The Trojans spent the next five minutes playing catch-up as Mount Olive tied the game and took the lead 54-53 following the Havens layup/free throw combination at 2:24 on the clock.
  • The home Tornado responded by going on a 6-0 run to head into the fourth quarter with the 59-54, five-point lead.

FOURTH QUARTER

  • A 15-5 run for the Tornado put the home team up 74-59 at the 5:25 mark of the fourth quarter.
  • The Trojans closed the gap to nine-points but ran out of time in an effort the catch the Tornado falling by ten, 85-75.

KEY STATS

  • Felecity Havens led all scorers with 31 points shooting 12-24 from the field and 5-6 from the free throw line.
  • Tommarah Harris had a good game scoring 18 points, four shy of tying her career-high 22, connecting on seven of 12 attempts from the field and four of eight from behind the three-point arc.
  • The Trojans shooting percentages were better overall than the Tornado as UMO went 42% from the field, 40% from behind the three and 90% at the charity stripe while King went 40.5%, 29.6%, and 89.5% respectively.

Mount Olive's season ended in the Conference Carolinas quarterfinals with an overall record of 12-17 and an even .500 record of 10-10 in conference action.
