Mount Olive Drops Road Contest At Elizabeth City State

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team fell 69-66 to the Vikings of Elizabeth City State University on Saturday afternoon in Elizabeth City, N.C. Felecity Havens scored 26 points while Jada Bacchus added 18 and Azariah Fields 14.

FIRST QUARTER

  • A Makayla Nichols three-pointer put the Trojans on the scoreboard first, two minutes into the opening quarter.
  • Over the next 2:10 minutes the Trojans went on a 7-2 run to hold a 10-2 lead at the 5:50 mark.
  • Elizabeth City pulled within a point, 12-11, over the next three minutes following a 9-5 run by the Vikings.
  • UMO closed out the opening ten minutes on an 8-2 run as the Trojans held a 20-13 lead heading into the second quarter.

SECOND QUARTER

  • Mount Olive held on to a nine-point lead throughout most of the second quarter and led by as many as 12 points before heading into halftime with a six-point lead 35-29.

THIRD QUARTER

  • The Vikings climbed back into the game tying the Trojans at 40 all at the 5:27 mark of the third quarter. ESCU led an 11-5 run that aided in the comeback.
  • The teams proceeded to trade points back and forth throughout the remainder of the third quarter with the Vikings holding a slim one-point lead, 53-52, going into the final ten minutes.

FOURTH QUARTER

  • A Felecity Havens three-pointer gave UMO a 55-53 lead but the Vikings tied it on a jump shot to even up the score.
  • UMO went on a 9-4 rally over five minutes to lead 64-59 with four and a half minutes to play.
  • Three straight baskets by the Vikings gave ECSU a one-point, 65-64, lead with 1:56 left to play.
  • Mount Olive reclaimed the lead by one point, 66-65, on a pair of free throws by Jada Bacchus, but Elizabeth City closed out the game scoring four consecutive free throws to win 69-66.
