Trojans Win Barn Burner In Banner Elk 77-72

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team came back from a fourth-quarter deficit to defeat the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College 77-72 in Conference Carolinas action Thursday evening in Banner Elk, N.C. Jada Bacchus finished two-points shy of her career-high with 26 points on the night, while Felecity HavensAzariah Fields, and Makayla Nichols all added double-figures in the game.

How It Happened
Play-by-Play

FIRST QUARTER

  • Mount Olive took the first two points of the contest and ran with it going on a 17-4 run during the first five minutes of play.
  •  The Bobcats responded with a six-point run to draw within seven with 2:11 left in the quarter.
  • Both teams exchanged a bucket and UMO went into the second with a 19-12 lead.

SECOND QUARTER

  • Lees-McRae tied the game in the opening minutes of the second as the Bobcats started the quarter with seven unanswered points.
  • The majority of the second quarter saw several lead changes but the Bobcats took a 36-34 lead into the half.

THIRD QUARTER

  • Just as they did in the second, LMC scored the first seven points of the third and extended their lead to 43-34 with 8:11 remaining.
  • UMO tried to battle back but could not get the lead under eight as the third quarter came to an end with the Bobcats leading 56-48.

FOURTH QUARTER

  • Nearly midway through the final quarter of play, Mount Olive had a short five-point spread that helped decrease the deficit to 61-58 with six minutes remaining.
  • Following a jumper with 3:32 left Makayla Nichols hit a three-pointer to draw the Trojans within two 65-63.
  • Lees-McRae answered with a bucket but was quicked responded back by a six-point run by the Trojans and UMO took the lead 69-67 with 1:21 remaining.
  • In the final minute of play, Jada Bacchus came up clutch with an and-one play and two more made free throws to give the Trojans a 74-70 lead with 11 seconds left in the game.
  • The Bobcats got it back to within two points, but Mount Olive was able to hold onto their lead making 3-of-4 free throws to close out the game and secure the win.

  • Jada Bacchus led the Trojans with 26 points and added 15 rebounds to give herself a double-double on the night.
