Trojans Win Streak Comes To End With 66-60 Loss To King

BRISTOL, TENN. – The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team saw its modest five-game win streak snapped by the Tornado of King University 66-60 in Conference Carolinas action Saturday evening in Bristol, Tenn.

FIRST QUARTER

  • Mount Olive took the first two points of the contest but saw King jump out to an 11-6 lead midway through the opening quarter.
  • After Makayla Nichols hit a three-point jumper with 4:09 remaining, the Tornado closed out the quarter on a 9-0 run and went into the second up 20-11.

SECOND QUARTER

  • Felecity Havens stopped the run 26 seconds into the second with a made jumper and decreased the deficit to seven.
  • King countered with four unanswered points to push the lead back to double figures once again with 8:15 on the clock, 24-13.
  • The two squads went back and forth exchanging baskets, but King held onto an 11+ point lead for a majority of the quarter until UMO went on a small run. The Trojans were able to put up four points to draw the deficit to single digits at 32-23 with 2:34 remaining.
  • The Tornado took the final momentum as they ended the half on a 7-0 scoring outburst to regain their ten-point cushion, 39-23.

THIRD QUARTER

  • The Mount Olive defense did a better job in the third quarter holding the Tornado to just six points as they put up 16 in response to draw within six 45-39.

FOURTH QUARTER

  • The final quarter did not shed much more hope for UMO as the two teams both scored 21 points and the Trojans were unable to stage a comeback.

KEY STATS

  • Felecity Havens led the Trojans with 22 points and added three rebounds.
  • Jada Bacchus and Makayla Nichols both had double-figure games scoring 15 and 10 points respectively in the game.
  • Bacchus also had 13 rebounds to complete a double-double performance.
