SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team defeated the Valkyries of Converse College 59-42 on Saturday evening in Conference Carolinas women's basketball action in Spartanburg, S.C.

How It Happened
Play-by-Play
FIRST QUARTER
- Mount Olive and Converse failed to get their offenses going to start the game as neither team could find a bucket until the 7:20 mark when Azariah Fields hit a three-pointer to give UMO the lead.
- Converse answered nine seconds later with a layup, but neither team really made a run.
- The Trojans' lead grew to 11-5 with 3:47 left, but another drought for both teams commenced as a basket was not scored until Converse connected on a free throw with 34 seconds left.
SECOND QUARTER
- The second half started much like the first as only six points were scored between the two teams midway through the quarter as Mount Olive held onto a slim 14-12 lead.
- A short 6-to-1 run by the Trojans started just under the five-minute mark, put UMO up by six 20-14 with 3:25 remaining before halftime.
- The Valkyries stopped the run with a three-pointer, but Mount Olive struck for one more run as Jada Bacchus started a ten-point run to end the quarter and UMO took a 30-17 lead into the break.
THIRD QUARTER
- Mount Olive held onto their ten-point lead for much of the quarter and with 6:33 remaining Bacchus started another offensive outburst as the Trojans went on an 8-0 run to expand their cushion to 40-20.
- Eight more points were exchanged between the two teams but Mount Olive went into the final quarter with still a twenty-point lead 44-24.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Converse was able to outscore the Trojans in the final quarter 18-to-15 but the deficit was too large as the Valkyries could not knock off UMO on their home court and Mount Olive took the final score 59-42.
KEY STATS
- Jada Bacchus led the team with 18 points. and tacked on eight rebounds.
- Felecity Havens tallied 14 points and a team-high nine rebounds, while Makayla Nichols led with nine points off the bench.
