Trojan Women's Hoops Downs Hawks; 73-67

MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team defeated the Hawks of Chowan University 73-67 in Conference Carolinas action in Kornegay Arena Wednesday night. UMO improves to 10-3 overall and 7-2 in conference, while Chowan falls to 3-10, 3-6.

INSIDE THE SCORE
Chowan took the first four points of the contest before Mount Olive answered with a ten-point run to gain the lead 10-4 midway through the quarter. The Hawks went onto take the next seven points before UMO ended the quarter with the final four to regain the lead once more at 14-11.

The second saw the Trojans build off their lead and utilize a short six-point run early through the quarter to push the advantage to as large as eight. Chowan kept the deficit under double digits and with Kiara Jackson scoring the final points of the half, UMO took a 35-28 lead into the break

The third quarter proved to be the end of the Trojan lead as Chowan, with 6:29, started a seven-point unanswered streak to give them the lead once more at 45-41. The lead did not stand for long as a five-point run for the Trojans gave Mount Olive the 48-47 lead with just over two minutes left in the frame. The game was tied twice as the third ended knotted at 52.

The final quarter started with a 8-to-2 run by the Trojans that boosted them to a 60-54 lead with under seven minutes. Chowan tried to keep it close, but a four-point run near the end of the game expanded the lead to nine and the Trojans closed the game out on the free-throw line going 4-for-8.

MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
The Trojans were led by Jada Bacchus with 23 points. Azariah Fields, Hope Toliver and Sherry Johnson had double-digit scoring afternoons with 14 and 12 points respectively.

CHOWAN LEADERS
The Hawks were led by Mariah Coker with a team-high 20 points. 

KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game came in the fourth quarter when UMO used a 8-to-2 run to gain control of the lead and help the Trojans get the 62-56 win.
