Virginia Lane is tied for first out of 32 golfers and nationally 49th-ranked Mount Olive holds a 23-shot lead after the first round of the Mount Olive College Women's Golf Spring Invitational Monday at Walnut Creek Country Club. Emelie Andersson is a stroke back in third place, while Stefany King and Julie Loennechen are tied for sixth.
Mount Olive carded a team score of 317, the fourth lowest 18-hole score in team history. Fellow Conference Carolinas teams took the next three spots with Limestone (340) in second place, Coker (349) third and Barton (354) fourth. Brevard (402) is in fifth place.
Lane carded a 38 on the front nine and a 37 on the back nine for a 75. Andersson shot 37 on the front nine and 39 on the back nine for a 76. King (39-44) and Loennechen (41-42) both shot 83's, while Emy Ohling (45-42--87) tied for 14th. Playing as an individual, Sarah Baniszewski (49-44--93) tied for 21st.
Two Barton players are in the top five with Brittany Zine tied for first and Maria Tirado in fifth with an 82. Competing as an individual, Kennedy Smith of Johnston Community College is fourth with a 79.
