The Trojan Presented By SCNB And Handy Mart: UMO Men Finish Fourth, UMO Women Finish Third

University of Mount Olive finished fourth in the men's tournament and third in the women's tournament as play concluded Tuesday at The Trojan Presented by SCNB and Handy Mart. The 36-hole tournaments were hosted by Mount Olive at Walnut Creek Country Club in Goldsboro, N.C.

In the men's tournament, Jesus Valderrama tied for third out of 47 golfers with an even-par 144. He carded a 73 Tuesday after shooting a 1-under-par 71 Monday. Mark O'Hara (75-75--150) and Dalton Gore (73-77--150) tied for 11th, Jeff Villalobos (77-74--151) tied for 15th, Sebastian Andersen (74-78--152) tied for 17th, Brady Hollenbacher (82-75--157) tied for 35th and Jose Ramirez (81-79--160) tied for 42nd.

After entering Tuesday's play in third place out of 10 teams and just four shots out of the team lead with a first round 293, the Trojans carded a 300 in the second round and dropped a spot with a 593. Mount Olive finished one shot behind third place Belmont Abbey and four shots behind second place Barton, which moved up from fifth.

Limestone won the team tournament with a 289-291--580.

Matthew Reid of Belmont Abbey followed his tournament record 9-under-par 63 in the first round with a 74 Tuesday for a 137 to win the individual title by five strokes. Limestone's Griffin Brown held onto second place with a 142.

In the women's tournament, Lovisa Tillstrom finished seventh out of 26 golfers with a 75-78--153. Julie Loennechen jumped four spots to a tie for ninth with an 80-75--155. Anne Barboteau (83-74--157) finished 15th, Emy Ohling (81-79--160) placed 16th, Sarah Baniszewski (88-79--167) was 18th and Stefany King (88-84--172) finished 21st.

The Trojans shaved 13 shots off their first round score to finish with a 319-306--625 and move ahead of Barton. First round leader Limestone went on to win with a 601, edging Lander by four shots in the four-team tournament.

Taylor McInnis of Limestone overcame a one-stroke deficit to move up from second place and capture the individual title with a 74-73--147.

This week's tournament concluded regular season play for Mount Olive. The Trojans compete in the 2014 Conference Carolinas Men's and Women's Golf Championships Sunday through next Tuesday at Greensboro, N.C.
