Women's Golf Finishes Fourth Out Of 19 Teams At Hilton Head Lakes Invite

The University of Mount Olive finished fourth out of 19 teams at the Hilton Head Lakes Invite at Hilton Head Lakes, S.C. The 36-hole tournament, hosted by Pfeiffer University, concluded Tuesday.

Mount Olive carded a team 18-hole score of 312 for the second straight day for a two-round total of 624, the second lowest 36-hole score in Trojan women's golf history. The matching 312's tied for the fifth lowest single round in program history.

Julie Loennechen tied for 15th out of 89 golfers with a 78-79—157, one stroke ahead of teammates Anne Barboteau and Denise Dange, who tied for 22nd with a 158. Barboteau carded a 79 in each round, while Dange overcame a first-round 83 with a 75 in the second round. Julie Kaeding (81-79—160) tied for 34th and Paula Guridi (74-92—166) tied for 52nd.

The Trojans finished just four shots behind third-place Wingate and six strokes ahead of fifth-place Queens. UNC Pembroke won the tournament with a 615. Mount Olive finished second among 10 Conference Carolinas schools competing.

Mount Olive is idle until March 30 when the Trojans travel to Greenville, S.C., to compete in the Cherokee Valley Women's Invitational, hosted by North Greenville. The two-day tournament concludes March 31.
