Women's Golf In Fifth Place After Opening Round Of Conference Carolinas Championship

Julie Loennechen is tied for eighth out of 45 golfers and University of Mount Olive is in fifth place out of nine teams after the opening round of the 2015 Conference Carolinas Women's Golf Championship Sunday at Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C. The Trojans are three shots out of fourth place and 12 strokes out of the lead.

Loennechen birdied the par-5 third hole, but had to settle for a 40 on the front nine. She made seven pars on the back nine for a 38 and an 18-hole score of 78. Loennechen finished the round in a seven-way tie and six shots out of the lead.

Julia Kaeding (41-40—81) and Anne Barboteau (42-39—81) are tied for 18th place. Kaeding birdied the par-3 14th hole, while Barboteau had birdies on the par-5 third hole and par-5 15th. Stefany King (40-44—84) is tied for 26th and Denise Dange (41-47—88) is tied for 33rd. King birdied the par-4 first hole and Dange birdied the par-4 ninth hole.

The Trojans recorded a team score of 324 to land just behind fourth-place Pfeiffer. King tops the team leaderboard with a 312, followed by Limestone (315) and Converse (319). Maddisen Cox of Converse shot the only even-par score on the day and has a two-stroke lead with a 72.

The 54-hole tournament continues Monday with the second round. The tournament concludes Tuesday.
