University of Mount Olive finished in 11th place out of 18 teams after the final round of the World Golf Village Women's Golf Invitational Monday at St. Augustine, Fla. The tournament field included eight teams ranked in the Golfstat Division II National Top 20. The event was the Trojans' 2016 spring season opener.
Mount Olive (325-317-642) shaved off eight strokes from the first round to finish 11th. The Trojans finished ahead of No. 19 West Georgia (327--316--643) by one stroke. Mount Olive nearly passed No. 13, and tournament host, Flagler College (321--320-641) who finished one stroke ahead in 10th.
Julie Loennechen (82—77--159) tied for 28th to lead the team card. Loennechen after teeing off at No. 10 with a par, birdied 18 & 1 while making the turn to the final nine holes.
Paula Guridi (86—74--160) tied for 32nd improving her score from day one by 12 strokes and moved up 38 spots on the leaderboard. Guridi also finished tied for 4th in total birdies in the tournament. Julia Kaeding tied for 40th (77--84-161) and finished tied for third on par five scoring with a even par average for the tournament. Anne Barboteau (80—82-162) tied for 46th to round out the card for Mount Olive.
Nationally third-ranked Florida Tech (301--303--604) won the tournament. Other ranked teams in the tournament were No. 2 Barry (Fla.), No. 5 Saint Leo (Fla.), No. 7 Nova Southeastern (Fla.), and No. 9 Lynn (Fla.).
Mount Olive will take short break before the Trojans hit the greens again in March. The Trojans will play in the AASU Women's Pirate Invitational in Savannah, Georgia March 2-3.
