Riann Daziel scored four goals and added two assists, but Mount Olive dropped its first game 18-12 in non-conference women's lacrosse action at a snowy Amon Field.
Mount Olive (1-1) struck first just 1:12 into the match when Michelle Scannell struck. Despite outshooting Lenoir-Rhyne for much of the first half, the Trojans never led after giving up the advantage with 24:33 left in the first.
The Trojans came back to tie the match 2-2 Heather Cockburn goal at the 16:22 mark with help from a Daziel assist. Forty seconds later, the Bears (1-0) took the lead for good on a Sarah Minick goal.
Lenoir-Rhyne scored the next three goals before the Trojans came to life again. Daziel scored on a free position shot, then Kara Lyon scored with an assist from Cockburn, cutting the deficit to 5-4 with 6:00 left in the half.
Lenoir-Rhyne extended the lead back to three before taking an 8-6 advantage at intermission.
The Bears all but put the match away in the first five minutes of the second half. Sarah and Mary Minick combined for three goals in the first 3:16 of the half to stretch the lead to 11-6.
Mount Olive got no closer than three the rest of the way.
Kara Lyon finished with three goals for the Trojans, while Alysha Kulka added two and Alex Crawford finished with one. Candace Corkin and Sarah Fischer each had an assist.
Defensively, Lenoir-Rhyne had a 14-13 advantage in ground balls. The Trojans had 18 turnovers to the Bears' 14. In goal, Sarah Snell had 11 saves.
Mount Olive returns to action Saturday, February 23 when the Trojans travel to Belmont Abbey for the program's first Conference Carolinas match beginning at 3 p.m.
