Trojans Open 2014 Season With 21-4 Win Over Chowan

Katie McGovern scored five goals in the season opener for the University of Mount Olive (1-0) as she led the team to a 21-4 victory over Chowan University (0-1) in Non-conference women's lacrosse Friday night at Amon Field in Mount Olive, N.C.

Mount Olive unleashed their offensive attack as the Trojans had 23 shots on goal. Nine different Trojans recorded a goal in the contest. McGovern who played her first match as a Trojan Friday night made her night special by tying the school record for goals in a single game.

The Trojans had the lead 13-1 going into halftime as they added eight more goals to the board in the second half. Chowan's offensive power came from Mackenzie Reid as she had all of the Hawks goals. Reid scored an early goal in the first half then added scattered goals in the second half to add to her four goal total. However, that was the only offense the Hawks found as the Trojan offense proved to be too much.

Riann Daziel recorded foul goals on the night. Michelle Scannell and Michelle Fortier both finished with three goals. Allison Dunn, Alex Crawford, Alysha Kulka, and Saffron Snethen had one apiece.

Alexa Milus added a team-high two assists. Alanna Bauche finished with one assist as well.

Defensively, in goal Hannah Knight and Sarah Snell combined for five saves. Alysha Kulka had four of the Trojans 17 groundballs.

The Trojans travel to face Catawba next Saturday in Salisbury, N.C. match time is set for 3pm. Then, Erskine College comes to Amon Field to open up Conference Carolinas play on the 22nd match time for that game is scheduled for 4pm.
