Riann Daziel Scores Three Goals As Mount Olive Defeats Catawba 12-1

Riann Daziel scored three goals for the University of Mount Olive as they beat Catawba College 12-1 Thursday night in non-conference women's lacrosse in Salisbury, N.C.

Daziel scored the first goal of the contest with 24:07 to give Mount Olive (2-0)the advantage. Kim McConnery scored the tying and lone goal for the Indians (0-1) with 17:49 left in the first half off the Meredith Jones assist.

The Trojans scored two more goals in the opening half coming from Michelle Scannell and Daziel; Michelle Fortier had the assist on both goals as Mount Olive never let Catawba see a tie again.

In the second half Mount Olive added nine more goals to the board as six different Trojans registered a goal. Katie McGovern had three goals for her second career hat trick in a row in a Trojan uniform. Candace Corkin had two goals at 21:41 and 14:14 remaining in the game. Alysha Kulka (26:43), Fortier (10:41), Daziel (1:29), and Scannell (14:58) all recorded one goal apiece.

Defensively for the Trojans, Fortier and Gina Fader both had a team high four ground balls of the team's 25 total. McGovern and Kayla Mergl both led the team with two turnovers caused. Kulka also had the team high in draw controls with three.

Hannah Knight had four saves on the night on five Indian shots.

Mount Olive out shot Catawba 30-14. They also made their free position attempts count as the Trojans went 4-for-8 on the night whereas the Indians went 0-for-4.

The win is the second straight for the Trojans following a 21-4 win over Chowan back in early February.

Mount Olive returns home to host Conference Carolinas opponent Erskine in their conference opener at Amon Field on Saturday. Match time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
