Trojans Shut Out Brevard 19-0 In Non-Conference Tilt

Alex Crawford and Michelle Fortier each scored three goals, and Sarah Snell recorded a save in the final minute to preserve the first shutout in school history as University of Mount Olive defeated Brevard College 19-0 in non-conference women's lacrosse Wednesday at Amon Field. Alexa Milus added two goals and three assists for the Trojans.

Mount Olive (6-2) needed only 43 seconds to get on the scoreboard as Alysha Kulka gave the Trojans a 1-0 lead. Fortier's free position goal with 9:17 remaining in the first half put the margin at double figures and Crawford's goal with seven seconds remaining extended the Trojans lead to 14-0 at the half.

Brevard (0-7) had a chance to end Mount Olive's shutout bid with 35 seconds left in the contest on Julia Gasston's free position shot. Snell deflected the shot and Trojan defender Emerald Barron caused a turnover to secure the shutout.

The Trojans outshot Brevard 41-8, but Tornado goalkeeper Bri Bangle recorded 19 saves to help limit Mount Olive to five goals in the second half.

Wednesday's contest marked the second time this season Mount Olive has held an opponent to one goal or less. The Trojans defeated Catawba 12-1 in February.

Mount Olive resumes Conference Carolinas play Saturday as the Trojans travel to Belmont, N.C., to play Belmont Abbey. Game time is 3 p.m.
