Michelle Fortier, who came within one goal of tying a University of Mount Olive single-game goal-scoring record, has been named Conference Carolinas Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week. Fortier becomes the first Trojan in the two-year history of the Mount Olive women's lacrosse program to win player of the week honors.
A freshman attack from King City, Ontario, Fortier scored five goals in the Trojans' 16-6 conference road win at Converse. Four of her goals came during a game breaking 14-0 run after Mount Olive trailed 3-1. She also had a career-high nine draw controls to spark the Trojan offense.
One day later, Fortier tallied a goal and six draw controls in the Trojans' 15-5 win at Newberry. The two double-digit wins in a span of less than 24 hours extended Mount Olive's winning streak to five.
Mount Olive returns to action Thursday as the Trojans play host to nationally 11th-ranked Pfeiffer in a Conference Carolinas match-up. Game time is 4 p.m. at Amon Field.
