Women's Lacrosse Celebrates Inaugural Senior Day With 15-6 Win Over Lees-McRae

University of Mount Olive celebrated its first-ever women's lacrosse Senior Night as the Trojans defeated Lees-McRae College 15-6 in Conference Carolinas action Saturday at Amon Field. Victoria Petricola and Michelle Scannell were recognized during halftime festivities.

Mount Olive (10-4 overall, 4-2 Conference Carolinas) spotted Lees-McRae (5-8, 0-6) an early goal before Katie McGovern and Michelle Fortier answered less than a minute later with goals 19 seconds apart to put the Trojans ahead to stay with 27:15 left in the first half. Scannell scored two of her three goals in the first half and the Trojans built a 10-2 halftime lead.

The margin reached double figures midway through the second half after Fortier's goal with 15:43 left to play extended the Trojans' lead to 14-4. Lees-McRae cut the lead back to single digits after Jenah Tracy and Ximena Dupont pulled the Bobcats within 14-6. Saffron Snethen scored Mount Olive's final goal with four seconds remaining.

McGovern led all players with four goals, while Riann Daziel joined Scannell with two goals. McGovern also recorded 11 draw controls.

Dupont and Katelyn Rooney led Lees-McRae with two goals apiece. Goalkeeper Mia Emmerson recorded 12 saves for the Bobcats.

Saturday's contest was Mount Olive's regular season conference finale. The Trojans had already clinched the No. 3 seed in the Conference Carolinas Tournament and will host a first round game April 22.

Mount Olive concludes regular season play this week with a pair of home contests. The Trojans play host to national poll vote-getter Dowling (N.Y.) Monday and to former Conference Carolinas member Coker Wednesday. Game time is 4 p.m. both days.
