Women's Lacrosse Opens Season With 18-4 Win At Coker

Kali Cook-Grisewood, Katie McGovern and Claire Wigler scored three goals apiece as University of Mount Olive opened the 2015 season with an 18-4 victory over Coker College in non-conference women's lacrosse Friday at Hartsville, S.C. Wigler added a game-high three assists.

Mount Olive (1-0) jumped out to a 5-0 lead with 23:44 left in the first half as Cook-Grisewood scored a goal a minute into the contest and McGovern capped the run with a pair of goals 38 seconds apart. Wigler scored two goals in the final seven minutes of the half and Riann Daziel's goal with seven seconds left gave the Trojans an 11-1 halftime lead.

Candace Corking and Cook-Grisewood scored goals less than a minute apart early in the second half as the Trojans extended their lead to 15-1 with 16:19 left to play. After Claudia Jenkins scored a goal for Coker (0-1), Alysha Kulka and Wigler scored goals in a span of 58 seconds to make the score 17-2 with 7:02 remaining. Saffron Snethen scored the Trojans' final goal with just under two minutes left.

Sarah Snell played all 60 minutes in goal and recorded five saves on nine shots.

Mount Olive plays its home opener and Conference Carolinas opener Saturday as the Trojans play host to Emmanuel. Game time is 2 p.m. at Amon Field.
