Women's Lacrosse Freezes Out North Greenville 18-1

Claire Wigler tallied four goals and two assists as University of Mount Olive remained unbeaten with an 18-1 victory over North Greenville in Conference Carolinas women's lacrosse Friday at Amon Field. Alexa Milus added three goals as nine different players scored for the Trojans.

Candace Corkin got Mount Olive (5-0) on the scoreboard less than three minutes into the contest and Wigler added her first goal three minutes later. After a goal by Milus, Corkin and Wigler scored exactly one minute apart to give the Trojans a 5-0 lead with 13:37 left in the first half. Katie McGovern followed with a pair of goals in a span of 57 seconds to extend the Trojans' lead to 7-0 with 10:32 remaining.

Mount Olive added four more goals in the half, including goals by Sarah Fisher and conference scoring leader Riann Daziel. Due to cold temperatures – highs in the mid-20's – the game was played with a running clock and halftime was only two minutes.

Wigler scored her fourth goal of the contest with 23:43 remaining to give the Trojans a 13-0 lead. Caitlin Sabadish and Alex Crawford also scored for Mount Olive in the second half. Saffron Snethen, who scored the initial goal of the second half, scored the final goal of the game.

North Greenville (0-3, 0-2) spoiled Mount Olive's bid for its second shutout in program history when Nikki Colwell scored with 4:34 left to play.

Alanna Bauche played the first half in goal for Mount Olive and recorded one save. The Trojans played with one additional defender and an empty net in the second half.

Mount Olive takes to the road Saturday as the Trojans play a neutral-site game against Brevard. The contest will take place at Wingate University in Wingate, N.C., due to field conditions at Brevard College caused by this week's weather. Game time is 1 p.m.
