Candace Corkin Scores Six Goals In No. 16 Mount Olive's 18-0 Win Over Converse

Candace Corkin led the No. 16 University of Mount Olive with six goals in route to a 18-0 shutout of Converse College Saturday afternoon at Amon Field in Mount Olive, N.C. for Conference Carolinas women's lacrosse.

Mount Olive (10-2 Overall, 4-0) struck for the first goal of the game off the stick of Corkin on a free position shot. The Trojans went on to strike for goal nine more times before halftime and took a 10-0 lead into the break.

In the second period Mount Olive did not allow Converse (5-5, 2-3) to take a shot on goal for the remainder of the match. The Valkyries were shut down by the Trojan's defensive as they could muster just two shots.

The Trojans added eight more goals before the final horn went off and took the match 18-0. The victory over Converse broke a streak of 110 straight matches the Valkyries had not been shut out.

Corkin added one groundball to her six goal performance. Riann Daziel finished with four goals and three groundballs. Katie McGovern also help the Trojans with three goals and three groundballs. Hannah Knight was perfect behind goal as she faced just two shots, none on goal in the win.

Mount Olive remains home as the Trojans will host Belmont Abbey on Wednesday at Amon field. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
