No. 14 Trojans Take Down Falcons 11-9 Tuesday Night

Claire Wigler scored two goalS in the final nine minutes to seal the win for the No. 14 University of Mount Olive 11-9 over Pfeiffer University Tuesday night in Misenheimer, N.C. for Conference Carolinas Women's Lacrosse.

Mount Olive (12-2 Overall, 6-0 Conference Carolinas) surrendered the first goal of the game off the Pfeiffer (7-4, 5-1) stick of Chalane Morrison just :56 into the game. The Falcons then went on a 3-0 run to open up the contest. Wagler was fouled and made good on her free position attempt to stop the run by Pfeiffer for the first goal for Mount Olive.

Morrison for Pfeiffer responded with a goal at the 21:15 mark. The Trojans ran the rest of the half as Riann Daziel and Wagler combined for five goals to round out the first half with Mount Olive hold a slim one goal lead, 5-4.

Pfeiffer's Cheyenne Green started off the second half scoring for the falcons as she found the back of the net unassisted with 26:56 left in the game. Saffron Snethen barried a pass from Wagler to regain the lead for the Trojans with 22:29.

The Trojans and Falcons exchanged goals for the next 12:28 as the score was all even at eight midway through the half. Wagler came out firing again as she found the nylon two more times to break the tie and give Mount Olive the lead for good. Daziel capped off the scoring for the Trojans with a pass from Katie McGovern and a goal with under five minutes to play. Pfeiffer scored on a last second free position play however the lead was too great and the Falcons dropped.

Wagler led all scorers with 5 goals and had two groundballs. Daziel added three groundballs to her three goals. Maddy Biggar added three groundballs, a draw control, and a forced turnover.

Mount Olive will return home to Amon Field on April 11, against Limestone. It will be senior day for Alanna Bauche, Alex Crawford, Sarah Fisher, and Katie McGovern.
