No. 13 Trojans Fall To No. 10 Limestone 9-6 In Battle Of Women's Lacrosse Conference Unbeatens

Riann Daziel scored three goals for nationally 13th-ranked University of Mount Olive and Alysha Kulka added a goal and two assists, but No. 10 Limestone College pulled away for a 9-6 victory over the Trojans in a battle of conference unbeatens in Conference Carolinas women's lacrosse Saturday at Amon Field. The loss snapped the Trojans' five-game winning streak and was UMO's first loss at home this season.

Kulka figured in all three first half goals for Mount Olive (12-3 overall, 6-1 Conference Carolinas). Her pass from behind the net found Candace Corkin with 21:39 left to tie the game 1-1. Kulka then gave the Trojans their first lead three minutes later off a pass from Claire Wigler.

After Limestone (12-2, 6-0) answered on a long-range goal by Sam McCarrick, Kulka found Daziel 58 seconds later for a goal and a 3-2 Trojan lead with 15:58 remaining. Limestone tied the game on a goal by Jaylen Schulte with 12:27 left and McCarrick's second goal with 6:06 remaining gave the Saints a 4-3 halftime lead.

It took Mount Olive just 57 seconds into the second half to tie the game 4-4 as Kristen McGovern caused a turnover in the Trojans' defensive end, raced down the field and found Daziel for a goal. Limestone capitalized on a free position opportunity as McCarrick scored her third goal from just in front of the right post off a pass from Schulte to break the tie and trigger a three-goal run. The two subsequent goals were scored on rebounds off of missed shots.

Daziel bulled through three defenders to pull Mount Olive within 7-5 with 13:59 left to play, but that was as close as the Trojans would get. Katie McGovern scored with 17 seconds left after Limestone built a four-goal advantage.

Prior to the game, Alanna Bauche, Alex Crawford, Sarah Fischer and Katie McGovern were honored during Senior Day festivities.

Mount Olive concludes regular season play Saturday as the Trojans travel to Banner Elk, N.C., to take on Lees-McRae in Conference Carolinas action. Game time is 2 p.m.
