University of Mount Olive opened up the 2016 Conference Carolinas women's lacrosse schedule with a 20-2 road win over Converse College in Spartanburg, S.C. Saturday afternoon. Saffron Snethen led the Trojans with five goals and one assist.
Mount Olive (3-0 Overall, 1-0 Conference Carolinas) wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Kali Cook-Grisewood was fouled on an attacking attempt. The Junior attacker utilized the free position attempt and put Mount Olive ahead 1-0 with 27:41 left in the first half.
Caity Hamilton was close behind Cook-Grisewood as she found the back of the net 1:32 later to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead. Snethen picked up the next goal with just over twenty minutes remaining. Hamilton found an open Snethen, who buried it in the back of the net. Mount Olive went on to score six more goals, before Converse (1-1, 0-1) was able to halt the Trojan offense.
With 45 seconds left in the first half, the Valkyries Elizabeth Gabriele received a pass from Brittni Jones and put Converse on the board. Hamilton and Claire Wigler went on to score two more goals before the half ended and Mount Olive led 11-1.
The second half saw a replication of the first half as the Trojan offense continued to roll. Riann Daziel got her first goal of the game with 26:35 and Alysha Kulka scored three of her four goals in just over an eight minute period.
Converse again did not let the game end without scoring at least one goal in the half as Chelsea Worrell scored eleven seconds left in the game.
The nine goals scored in the second half, is the most Mount Olive has scored in the second half of a game thus far this season.
Snethen added one caused turnover to go with her team high goals scored. Kulka led the team with four assists to accompany her four goals. She also added two ground balls and two draw controls. Gina Fader led the defense with four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Mount Olive will round out the weekend road trip with a visit to Wingate, N.C. Sunday afternoon. The Trojans will take on the Bulldogs of Wingate University at 1 p.m.
