Trojans Cruise Past Barton To Win Season Opener 25-1

Wilson, N.C. – The University of Mount Olive women's lacrosse team opened the 2016-17 season with a 25-1 win over Barton College in Conference Carolinas action on Friday night in Wilson, N.C.

Play-by-Play

FIRST HALF

  • UMO allowed Barton to strike first after a forced turnover as the Bulldogs' Kianna Jimenez found the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Saffron Snethen did not allow the lead to hold as she knotted the game up with 26:28 remaining in the half.
  • The Trojans revved up the accelerator as Mount Olive went on to score 12 straight goals to take a 13-1 lead into halftime.

SECOND HALF

  • The Trojans continued to control the game in the second half as UMO controlled the first draw control and moved into attacking formation.  Jackie Kaderabak scored the first three goals of the half as Mount Olive pushed home 12 more goals to take the victory 25-1.

KEY STATS

  • Junior Micheala Ciciarelli led the Trojans offense with eight goals.
  • Freshman Kelly Young added six goals.
  • Saffron Snethen and Kaderabak both also added three goals.
  • four more Trojans added at least one goal; Nola Wesche, Kali Ferguson, Claire Murray, and Amanda Berger all added to the UMO total.
  • Samantha Thompson (1-0) picked up the win in goal for Mount Olive playing the first half facing three shots and collecting two saves.
  • Freshman Siena Miller spent the second half in goal for the Trojans facing just one shot and collecting a save.

Notables

  • The win for Mount Olive marked the program's and head coach Grant Kelam's 50th win.
