Strong Second Half Propels Trojans To Victory Over Lions

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA. – The University of Mount Olive women's lacrosse team dominated the Lions of Emmanuel College in Conference Carolinas action in Franklin Springs, Ga. The Trojans offense spread the wealth as 12 different players all scored goals in the contest with five tallying two goals apiece.

Play-by-Play

FIRST HALF

  • The Trojans got the game going scoring the first three goals of the contest in the opening eight minutes of play. Amanda Berger put the first point on the board off a pass from Michaela Ciciarelli at the 24:14 mark. Less than 50 seconds later Kali Ferguson got in the books with a goal off yet another Ciciarelli pass and the Berger/Ciciarelli duo combined for the third goal with 22:33 on the clock taking the 3-0 lead.
  • Emmanuel scored two quick goals over a 40-second time span to pull within one of Mount Olive, 3-2, before Ciciarelli found a shot of her own hitting the back of the net to take a 4-2 lead with 4:26 remaining in the half.
  • The Lions responded by tying the game on two goals scored in a 29-second window with just over two minutes before the halftime horn rang.
  • Skye Bradley gave UMO a one-point advantage, 5-4, heading into halftime as she scored a goal with one second left in a man-down situation.

SECOND HALF

  • The Trojans came out of the intermission blowing the doors off the hinges as the team scored 12 goals to the Lions four.
  • UMO scored six straight goals to take a seven-point, 11-4, lead with 17 minutes remaining in the half. Kelly Young put up back-to-back goals that started the scoring frenzy. Jackie Kaderabek, Denae Haeussler, Kriston Guerra, and Jordan Shughrue were the other four contributors to the opening six goals in the second half.
  • Emmanuel broke up Mount Olive's scoring drive with a goal before three more goals were scored putting the Trojans up by nine, 14-5, with just over 10 minutes left to play. Nola Wesche and Keely Trail joined in on the scoring party while Shughrue added her second goal of the game.
  • Another Emmanuel goal interrupted the UMO scoring as Kaderabek and Guerra added their second goals of the game in the span of 43 seconds to give Mount Olive a 10-goal lead, 16-6 with 5:52 remaining. Guerra's goal came during a man-up occurrence off a free position shot.
  • A pair of Lions goals cut the Trojans lead back to single digits, but Mount Olive got in the last word as Kiara Burke scored her only goal of the game with 80 seconds remaining in regulation to defeat Emmanuel 17-8 and improve to 5-1, 3-0 on the season.
