Trojans Take A Bite Out Of Cobras

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The University of Mount Olive women's lacrosse team defeated the Cobras of Coker College in a midweek non-conference NCAA Division II matchup at Ray McDonald Sr. Track & Field/ Lacrosse Complex in Mount Olive, N.C. Michaela Ciciarelli led the Trojans offense with five goals while Jackie Kaderabek lead all players with seven points on the day.

How It Happened
Play-by-Play

FIRST HALF

  • UMO scored the first goal of the contest just 12 seconds after the first draw as Kiara Burke scored an unassisted goal right off the draw control to give Mount Olive a 1-0 lead.
  • The Cobras responded less than a minute later to tie the game a one-all.
  • Mount Olive opened the floodgates scoring five consecutive goals to take the 6-1 lead with 20 minutes left to play in the half. Kelly Young started the streak off an assist from Jordan Shughrue while Burke followed with her second goal of the game off a free position shot. Michaela Ciciarelli followed with two of her five goals, the first assisted by Shaugure and the second unassisted. Wrapping up the first rally was Keely Trail recording her fourth goal of the season off the assist from Denae Haeussler.
  • Coker brought the Mount Olive lead down to four following a goal at the 19-minute mark with the score sitting at 6-2.
  • The Trojans scored six-consecutive goals, taking a 10-point lead, 12-2, in the final 14 minutes of the half. Ciciarelli scored her third and fourth goals, Burke added her third for a hat trick and Jackie Kaderabek had three unassisted rockets into the back of the net to contribute to the Trojan lead.
  • The Cobras had the final word of the first half, however, scoring off a free position shot with just 15 seconds remaining before the halftime horn.

SECOND HALF

  • The second half was the Trojans show as they opened with six more goals taking a 15 point lead with 10-minutes remaining in regulation. Kaderabek and Ciciarelli started off the half with their fourth and fifth goals respectively. Nola Wesche, Kriston Guerra, Jordan Shughrue and Kali Ferguson all joined the scoring party. 
  • Coker scored a pair of goals cutting the Trojan lead to 13 before Burke added the final goal of the game, and her fourth of the day, to help Mount Olive earn the 19-5 win and improve to 6-1 on the season.

KEY STATS

  • Ciciarelli lead all scorers with five goals while Kaderabek and Burke each added four apiece.
  • Kaderabek tallied three assists in addition to her four goals for seven total points.
  • Shughrue added two assists while Ciciarelli, Ferguson, and Haeussler each tallied one.
  • The Trojans outshot the Cobras 37-12 in the contest which ultimately led to the UMO win.

UMO's women's lacrosse team will face off against Conference Carolinas opponent Southern Wesleyan University with the first draw set for 3 p.m.
