MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The University of Mount Olive women's lacrosse team defeated the Indians of Catawba College 17-8 on Saturday afternoon in nonconference women's lacrosse action at the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex in Mount Olive, N.C.

How It Happened
Play-by-Play
FIRST HALF
- Catawba opened the scoring at the 28:19 mark and did not let up adding a second goal with 27:39 remaining to go up 2-0.
- Mount Olive finally broke into the scorebook with a Kiara Burke goal on a free position attempt just under the 26-minute mark.
- Burke added her second goal of the half two minutes later on yet another free position shot and tied the game at two.
- The Trojans took the lead 3-2 after Meaghan Michaud was fouled and made good on her free position attempt with 21:13 on the clock.
- The game went back-and-forth with each team taking over the lead one more time before Burke started a three-goal run for the Trojans that put UMO ahead 8-5 with 5:20 before halftime.
- Catawba added an unassisted goal at the 4:03 mark ending the scoring for both teams and Mount Olive took a two-goal lead into the break.
SECOND HALF
- Mount Olive did not allow the Indians to make the game close in the second half as Burke start another run for the Trojans as goals by Burke (2), Michaud, Lee, and Jordan Shughrue put the margin at 13-6 with 19:25 left in the game.
- Catawba stopped the run with two goals within 16 seconds of each other as the Indians drew the score two 13-8 with 14:16 left in the half.
- Shughrue started another run to end the game for Mount Olive as the Sophomore along with Michaud (2) and Nola Wesche closed out the scoring on a 4-0 run and UMO took the final score 17-8.
KEY STATS
- Meaghan Michaud led the Trojans with six goals and had three groundballs.
- Kiara Burke was close behind with five scores and one assist to go along with one ground ball.
- Sadie Michael led the defense with 10 groundballs and three caused turnovers.

Mount Olive is off for a week before returning to action on Saturday, February 23, when the Trojans host the Bulldogs of Wingate University in non-conference action. UMO and WU will meet in the center circle at 1 p.m. for first draw.
