No. 24 Mount Olive Defeats Belmont Abbey 17-12

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Mount Olive Trojans defeated the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey College 17-12 on Wednesday afternoon in Conference Carolinas women's lacrosse action at the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex in Mount Olive, N.C. Freshmen Tiffany Lee and Meaghan Michaud each tallied four goals in the contest.

How It Happened
Play-by-Play

FIRST HALF

  • The Trojans kicked things off scoring three goals in the opening nine minutes of the game. Jackie Kaderabek, Kiara Burke, and Tiffany Lee each recorded a goal in the opening run.
  • The Crusaders of BAC responded with a 3-0 run of their own to knot the score at three-all by the 17th minute of the game.
  • UMO took a two-goal advantage following a shot from Lee and another by Nola Wesche putting the Trojans up 5-3 with 9:23 remaining in the opening half.
  • Belmont Abbey tied things up again after putting back-to-back goals on the scoreboard including a man-up goal at the eight-minute mark.
  • The Trojans closed the opening half with two goals to take a 7-5 lead into halftime. Kaderabek scored her second of the game while Meaghan Michaud put up her first of the game.

SECOND HALF

  • Less than 90 seconds into the second half Belmont Abbey cut the Mount Olive lead to one goal, 7-6 on an unassisted shot.
  • Over the next 15 minutes, the teams traded goal-for-goal with the Trojans maintaining their lead over the Crusaders 11-10 following a BAC goal at the 13:35 mark.
  • UMO gained a little cushion after putting back-to-back goals on the board both from Michaud to go up 13-10 with 8:54 remaining in regulation.
  • Abbey scored once to cut the lead to two goals, 13-11, but a pair of goals, one each from Kiara Burke and Kelly Young, put UMO up by four goals, 15-11.
  • The Crusaders scored one more goal but the Trojans sealed the deal with two last goals, on each from Jordan Shughrue and Burke, to give UMO a five-goal win 17-12 over the Crusaders.

KEY STATS

  • A pair of freshmen Tiffany Lee and Meaghan Michaud each tallied four goals in the contest.
  • Kiara Burke joined the duo with a hat trick of her own while also grabbing four draw controls and four ground balls.
  • Siena Miller (W: 6-0, 3-0) tallied six saves while giving up nine goals in 47:02 minutes between the pipes.
