MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive wrestling team hosted their first-ever home duals on Sunday, November 24, with a quad-dual event between No. 21 UNC Pembroke, No. 12 West Liberty, and Saint Andrew's at Kornegay Arena.
INSIDE THE MEET
Due to schedule confusion, the matches went a little out of order with Mount Olive and No. 12 West Liberty taking to the mat to begin the day. Following the first match, both mats were going with UMO versus Saint Andrew's on one and No. 12 West Liberty and No. 21 UNC Pembroke on the other. Rounding out the day was a dual between UMO and UNCP to conclude the inaugural home opener.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
UMO won 11 of the 30 matches on the day. Six of those wins came in the dual against Saint Andrews with two pins, one tech fall, a decision, and two forfeits. Dylan Wilman won by injury default over West Liberty's Nate Keaton at 133 pounds, while Drew Wiechers won by tech fall, 25-8, over Stephen Carder at 157 pounds. Ogden Atwood won the heavyweight bout in a 6-3 decision to take three matches from the No. 12 team. When the Trojans battled the Braves of UNC Pembroke, only one match was won by the Trojans while the other was a forfeit from the Braves. Wilman recorded four team points following a 13-1 major over his foe Joseph Ballantyne. Atwood won by forfeit to go 2-0 on the day.
