Ellie Barnes' Overtime Goal Lifts Women's Soccer Past Emmanuel

Less than a minute after re-entering the match, Ellie Barnes scored the overtime game-winner to give University of Mount Olive its first win of the season as the Trojans defeated Emmanuel College 1-0 in Conference Carolinas women's soccer Saturday at Amon Field. The match, Mount Olive's first in 10 days, was the Trojans' conference opener.

Mount Olive (1-3-0 overall, 1-0-0 Conference Carolinas) outshot Emmanuel 23-5 for the match, including a 5-0 advantage in the overtime period. Barnes re-entered the match at the 96:34 mark and capitalized on a deflection to put home the winning goal at 97:01. The goal was Barnes' second of the season.

Emmanuel (1-3-0, 0-2-0) had the first two shots of the contest, both coming in the first eight minutes. Mount Olive went on to hold the Lions without another shot for the remainder of the half.

Trojan goalkeeper Gigi Ramirez recorded three saves, while Lions keeper Breanna Grizzle finished with seven saves.

Mount Olive is right back in action Sunday as the Trojans play host to Chowan in a non-conference match-up. The contest is the second of three matches in a four-day span for the Trojans. Match time is 4 p.m. at Amon Field.
