Women's Soccer Falls To Wingate 7-0 In Non-Conference Tilt

University of Mount Olive allowed four first-half goals and never recovered as the Trojans fell to Wingate 7-0 in non-conference women's soccer Monday at Wingate, N.C. The shutout loss ended the Trojans' streak of four consecutive matches with at least one goal.

Mount Olive (3-5-0) fell behind 2-0 in the first 20 minutes after Wingate (4-2-2) scored a pair of goals less than four minutes apart. The Bulldogs added goals in the 29th minute and the 37th minute. A penalty kick was among Wingate's second-half goals.

Alex Wetherholt narrowly missed getting the Trojans in the scoring column in the final minutes, bending a shot from 22 yards out from above the top right side of the box. Wingate goalkeeper Alexis Jones was able to make the save to preserve the shutout.

Mount Olive plays its third match in five days Wednesday as the Trojans play host to former Conference Carolinas member Coker in non-conference action. Match time is 7 p.m. at Amon Field.
