Trojans Slip To Pfeiffer 3-2

The University of Mount Olive scored a goal in the second period however it was not enough to comeback from a two goal deficit as Pfeiffer University took the match 3-2 Wednesday afternoon in Misenheimer, N.C. in Conference Carolinas women's soccer. The loss was just the second in conference play for the Trojans.

Mount Olive (5-6-1 Overall, 3-1-1 Conference Carolinas) got on the board early in the 10th minute as Nichole Poppe dribbled through two Falcon defenders and took her shot that deflected off the keeper and into the back of the net. The score gave the momentum to the Trojans as they looked to hold off the Falcon offence.

Pfeiffer (6-5, 3-2) responded ten minutes later as Gretchen Dettlinger scored the first of her two match goals at the 19:47 mark and the Falcons tied the game. Pfeiffer added two more goals in the first period and jumped out to an early 3-1 advantage as the matched went into the half.

The Trojans did not go down without a fight in the second period. An offside by the Falcons presented an opportunity for Mount Olive to mount an attack and they did just that. Jocelyn Yurchak took a pass from Niza Vera inside the box and beat the Pfeiffer keeper 1v1 to bring the Trojans to within one.

Mount olive had two corner kicks late in the match but were unable to find any open feet and the match ended with Pfeiffer on the winning end.

The Trojans return home to Amon Field Saturday October 11 where they will play host to Conference Carolinas opponent King University. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
