Women's Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision To Barton In Home Finale

University of Mount Olive fell to Barton College 2-0 in Conference Carolinas women's soccer Tuesday at Amon Field. The contest was the Trojans' final home match of the season.

Goalkeeper Gigi Ramirez recorded four saves for Mount Olive (5-11-1 overall, 3-6-1 Conference Carolinas), but was unable to catch up to a roller off the foot of Kathryn Smith on a service from the right side by Emily Futral in the ninth minute of play. Barton (11-3-2, 6-3-1) added an insurance goal in the 70th minute on Ashley Batchelor's 20-yard shot off a corner kick.

With one match remaining, the Trojans' "magic number" remains one to earn a spot in next week's Conference Carolinas Tournament. A Mount Olive victory or a North Greenville loss to conference co-leader Converse Saturday puts the Trojans in the tournament.

Mount Olive concludes regular season play Saturday as the Trojans travel to Central, S.C., to take on first-year conference member Southern Wesleyan in Conference Carolinas action. Match time is 3 p.m.
