Trojans Fall To Top-Seeded Converse 3-1 In Opening Round Of Conference Carolinas Women's Soccer Tournament

Maddy Robak's first goal of the season cut a two-goal deficit in half, but University of Mount Olive's rally came up short as the eighth-seeded Trojans fell to No. 1 seed Converse College 3-1 in the quarterfinal round of the 2014 Conference Carolinas Women's Soccer Tournament Tuesday at Spartanburg, S.C. With the loss, the Trojans end their season with a record of 6-12-1.

Mount Olive spotted Converse (15-2-1) two early goals before Robak got the Trojans on the scoreboard midway through the first half. Nichole Poppe crossed the ball in the box to Robak, whose shot went off the Valkyries' goalkeeper and pulled the Trojans within 2-1 at the 28:28 mark.

The score remained the same until Converse capitalized on a corner kick in the 79th minute. Trojan goalkeeper Gigi Ramirez batted away the first shot attempt, but Julia Babic put home the rebound to give the Valkyries an insurance goal.

Converse took an early 2-0 lead with goals at 3:17 and 19:14. Ella Ritchie assisted on both Valkyrie goals.

Mount Olive was outshot 15-6 for the match. Ramirez recorded nine saves for the Trojans.
