Women's Soccer Falls To Belmont Abbey 3-0

University of Mount Olive suffered its first conference loss of the season as the Trojans fell to Belmont Abbey College 3-0 in Conference Carolinas women's soccer Saturday at Amon Field. The match was the first this season in which the Trojans trailed by more than one goal at any point of the match.

Mount Olive (3-3-0 overall, 2-1-0 Conference Carolinas) recorded the first shot of the match on Lauren Power's attempt in the sixth minute. Power's shot was stopped by Belmont Abbey goalkeeper Megan Bowen and the Crusaders denied the Trojans another shot for the remainder of the half.

Belmont Abbey (3-1-1, 1-0-0) broke the deadlock at the 21:37 mark. Trojan goalkeeper Stephanie McCoy made a diving save on Tallee Zamiela's close-range shot, but Cierra Skyers put home the rebound. The Crusaders added a goal less than four minutes later as Laura Shelton headed in Cassidy Coutinho's long cross from right of the box. Skyers scored her second goal of the match at 81:18 to close out the scoring.

McCoy finished with nine saves for Mount Olive, coming within one save of matching her career high. Bowen had three saves for Belmont Abbey, which outshot the Trojans 19-5 for the match.

Mount Olive returns to action Tuesday as the Trojans travel up I-795 to Wilson, N.C., to take on Barton College in a Conference Carolinas match-up. Match time is 5 p.m.
