Nichole Poppe Rallies Trojans To 2-2 Tie At King

Nichole Poppe scored the match's opening goal three minutes into the contest and scored the tying goal in the 82nd minute as University of Mount Oliver rallied for a 2-2 tie against King University in Conference Carolinas women's soccer Sunday at Bristol, Tenn. The draw was the Trojans' second in their last three matches.

Mount Olive (4-3-2 overall, 3-1-2 Conference Carolinas) took a 1-0 lead at the 3:03 mark when Poppe stole the ball from the defender at the top of the box and beat the keeper for her fifth goal of the season. Trojan goalkeeper Stephanie McCoy made five of her eight saves in the first half as the Trojans went into halftime with a one-goal advantage.

King ((5-2-2, 3-1-1) tied the match in the 58th minute as Hulda Sigurdardottir took a cross from left of the box and scored inside the right post. Sigurdardottir gave the Tornado their first lead in the 74th minute on a 30-yard shot.

Poppe brought the Trojans back as she dribbled through the right side and put her shot in off the right post to tie the match at the 81:30 mark and force overtime. Poppe had two shots hit the crossbar in extra time - one in each overtime period - but the Trojans had to settle for a tie.

The match - the Trojans' third in a row on the road - was pushed back a day from its original schedule date due to rain.

Mount Olive plays its first home match in more than two weeks as the Trojans play host to Pfeiffer under the lights Wednesday in a Conference Carolinas match-up. Match time is 7 p.m. at Amon Field.
