Mount Olive, N.C. - The University of Mount Olive earned a hard-fought victory with a 1-0 defeat of UNC Pembroke in non-conference women's soccer Wednesday night.

First Half
- The Trojans looked shaky in the first half, as UMO was outshot by UNC Pembroke 7-0
- Despite being outshot and facing six shots on goal, the Trojans prevented the Braves from making a breakthrough.
- UNC Pembroke earned seven corner kicks in the initial period to UMO's zero, but was stifled by a stingy UMO backline and senior goalkeeper Stephanie McCoy
Second Half
- Mount Olive opened the second period on its heels, as the Braves recorded the first four shots of the half and earned two corners.
- UMO found a breakthrough as sophomore forward Lauren Mumford burst free and possessed the ball from the midfield stripe to nearly the top of the 18 yard box.
- Mumford slipped the ball past a host of Brave defenders and found the feet of junior forward Hannah Kirk who finished past the keeper at the 70:53 mark.
- The Trojans played back for the majority of the final 20 minutes and were successful in preventing UNCP from finding the equalizer.
Key Stats
- Other than Kirk, seniors Lauren Cowley and Niza Vera, and junior Jess Hickey also recorded a shot for the Trojans.
- A halftime replacement, junior goalkeeper Abigail Ross made a pair of saves to help earn her first win at UMO.
