How It Happened
Play-by-Play

First Half

  • Mount Olive and Converse spent most of the first half feeling each other out as neither team could find the scoreboard until the 38th minute when the Valkyries found the back of the net to take the lead.

Second Half

  • The Trojans dug deep and looked for a spark and found one 13 minutes into the second half as Jaelyn Brown won the ball on the outside right side of the box and blasted a shot past the Converse keeper and knotted the game at one.
  • UMO continued to press the Valkyries back line as they outshot Converse 7-to-3 in the second half, but were unable to find the go-ahead goal and extra time was needed.

Overtime

  • In extra time Mount Olive continued to press Converse as the Trojans only registered two shots in the overtime period but only one shot would matter as the golden goal was found by Kaylee Larson.
  • Larson took the ball away well into the Valkyries side of the field and drove it all the way into the Trojans' attacking third and chipped the ball past the CC keeper and the ball trickled into the corner for the game-winning goal.
