BANNER ELK, N.C. - University of Mount Olive women's soccer team defeated the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College in overtime in Conference Carolinas action Saturday afternoon in Banner Elk, N.C.

How It Happened
Play-by-Play
First Half
- Mount Olive struck for the momentum early as the Trojans entered their attacking third in the fourth minute of the game. Kaylee Larson was in the corner and found space for a cross into the box and found Jaelyn Brown, who placed the ball past the Bobcats keeper for the first score of the contest.
- Lees-McRae found an answer in the 21st minute. A corner kick clearance attempt failed and a shot blasted past the UMO Keeper to tie the game at one.
- The Trojans took the last bit of momentum for the half as a foul just outside of the box gave Mount Olive a set piece opportunity.
- Elena Esparica lined up to take the shot off the left post. Esparcia's shot bent around the box and tipped off the keeper's hands and into the righthand corner of the goal and put UMO back up 2-1 heading into halftime.
Second Half
- The Bobcats came out and tied the game 15 minutes into the second half on a penalty kick goal.
- LMC, ten minutes later, put themselves on top for the first time in the game at the 70:16 mark off a free kick opportunity.
- As time began to run down a foul just past midfield against the Bobcats gave UMO a set piece. The Trojans pushed numbers forward and keeper Marlayna Frutiger came up to take the free kick.
- Frutiger squared up her attempt and the ball sailed into the box and over the Bobcat keeper but under the crossbar and tied the game at the 88:51 mark.
Overtime
- Extra time was needed and Mount Olive was the first team to record a shot three minutes into overtime.
- Jordyn Davis, 6:26 into extra time, crossed a ball in the box and found Kaylee Mariani open and the freshman scored the first goal of her collegiate career and the game-winner for the Trojans.
Key Stats
- Davis led the Trojans in shots with four, three on goal, and added an assist. Larson was close behind with three shots and also had one assist.
- Marlayna Frutiger (2-1-0) collected five saves in goal for UMO.
Notables
- The win snaps a road winless streak dating back to Oct 29. 2016 when Mount Olive defeated Southern Wesleyan 1-0 in Due West, S.C.

The young women in this program are not only very good athletes but more importantly, they are exceptional human beings.
