MURFREESBORO, N.C. - University of Mount Olive women's soccer team fell to the Hawks of Chowan University 2-1 in Conference Carolinas action Wednesday afternoon in Murfreesboro, N.C.

How It Happened
Play-by-Play
First Half
- Mount Olive had to battle from behind within the first five minutes as Chowan scored on a breakaway goal in the fourth minute of the opening half to take the early lead.
- The Trojans did not squander the first half, as in the final 14 minutes of play UMO had a series of corner kicks that led to a pair of near saves by the Hawks keeper.
- Chowan was able to hold off an equalizing goal however by the Trojans pressing offense and held a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Second Half
- Nearly 20 minutes into the second half Chowan added their second goal of the game, beating the Trojans' back line and a diving UMO keeper for a 2-0 cushion in the 65th minute.
- UMO, not backing down, found the back of the net 3:15 later on a Kaylee Larson pass from the left side of the box onto the waiting foot of Kaylee Mariani and the Hawks lead was cut to one.
- Needing to find a game-tying score UMO pressed in the final minute of play. The Trojans almost found a goal as a shot by Cristina Galvan was just barely saved and gave Mount Olive a corner kick with 56 seconds.
- Mount Olive lined up for the corner pushing numbers forward and the ball came crossing in, but a foul on UMO negated any chance of a score and a Chowan goal kick was the final play of the game as the Trojans fell.
Key Stats
- Larson led the Trojans in shots with three, two on goal, and had the lone assist for UMO on the Mariani goal. Mariani added the only score for Mount Olive.
- Marlayna Frutiger (2-2) collected two saves in goal for UMO.
