Mount Olive, N.C. - The University of Mount Olive women's soccer team fell in overtime to the Flying Fleet of Erskine College 2-1 in a midweek Conference Carolinas contest at Amon Field in Mount Olive, N.C. Kaylee Larson scored the lone goal for UMO off the assisted pass from Raven Withaar.

How It Happened
Play-by-Play

First Half

  • Erskine claimed the opening score in the 16th minute as a Fleet forward shook the Trojan keeper to score on an open net.
  • UMO tried to counter with a series of shots towards the Erskine goal in the 24th minute, but Sara Dooley, the EC goalkeeper, was able to keep the Trojans off the scoreboard.

Second Half

  • Mount Olive found the tying goal in the 72nd minute as Raven Withaar passed a ball forward to Kaylee Larson, who beat the keeper on the left side just inside the box.
  • Following the UMO score, neither side managed much offense until the 90th minute when Erskine fired in three straight shots. 
  • The Trojans' defense held strong however and did not allow any of the threats to penetrate the net and extra time was needed. 

Overtime

  • Mount Olive started off the overtime period with a shot that sailed just high in the second minute of extra time.
  • The next three minutes went by without either team taking control until Erskine struck in the 95th minute.
  • A cross into the center of the box found an open Devyn Cabral who redirected her shot to the corner of the net and beat a diving UMO keeper and won the match for Erskine.

Mount Olive returns to action on Thursday, October 18, as they travel to Belmont, N.C., to take on Belmont Abbey College. The Trojans and Crusaders are set for a 3:30 first kick in a rescheduled match from Sept. 15.
