Sharif Saber Inks 13 For 2019 Women's Soccer Season

Mount Olive, N.C. --- The Mount Olive women's soccer team will add depth with the addition of 13 new signees, head coach Sharif Saber announced today. Joining the returning class of Trojans this fall are nine freshmen, defenders Samantha Hamrick, Emily Sanders, and Toni Brem, midfielders Cami Pereira, Ashley Lindsay, Kali Schindler, and Riley Baker, forward Jasmine Pinterand goalkeeper Nicole Solicito. Also joining the Trojans, as transfers are goalkeeper Taylor Lewis, defender Shaunalee Govia, midfielder Sara Berglund, and forward Emma Campbell.

"We are extremely excited to welcome our 2019 class to UMO. Their combination of athletic ability, character, and academic success will be a wonderful addition to our growing program both in the classroom and on the field," said Saber.

Riley Baker is a freshman midfielder from Danvers, Ma. The Danvers High School product helped her squad reach the Massachusetts State Championship Final on the heels of an 18-3-1 overall record and a Northeastern Conference Title last season. Baker was also named an NEC All-Star. 

Sara Berglund is a junior midfielder/forward from Borlaenge, Sweden. Berglund transferred from the University of Bridgeport wherein her sophomore year she played in 24 matches scoring two goals, assisting in one, helping the Purple Knights win the 2018 NCAA DII National Championship for the first time in school history with a 1-0 win over Grand Valley State.

Toni Brem is a freshman defender from West Chester, Pa. Brem helped the Warriors of Henderson High School to a 9-8-1 overall record and 6-5 in conference.

Emma Campbell is a sophomore forward from Swords, Ireland. The Cumberland University transfer spent one year with the Phoenix playing in 19 matches, starting in five, and scored five goals with six assists. Cumberland went 16-3-1 and made it to the final of the Mid-South Conference Championship.

Shaunalee Govia is a junior defender from Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. The Essex County College transfer last season helped the Wolverines earn their second straight NJCAA Region XIX Division I soccer championship. Govia was named regional defensive player of the year as well. She also played on the Trinidad and Tobago U20 National Team.

Samantha Hamrick is a freshman defender from Collingswood, N.J. In her senior year, Hamrick assisted the Panthers to a 7-12-2 overall record with eight goals, one assist, as well as an appearance in the NJSIAA Group 2 Tournament.

Taylor Lewis is a junior goalkeeper transfer from Hamilton, Ohio. Lewis is coming from Monroe College where she spent 77 minutes in goal recording two saves and allowing two scores in four matches in route to helping the Mustangs win the NJCAA DI National Championship.

Ashley Lindsay is a freshman midfielder from Massapequa, N.Y. In her senior season, Lindsay helped the Plainedge High School women's soccer team to an 8-8 overall record and was named MVP and received the All-Nassau County Award.

Cami Pereira is a freshman transfer from Mangilao, Guam. Pereira comes to UMO from Nova Southeastern University via Stuttgart High School in Germany. While at Stuttgart Pereira was named first-team all-Europe, first-team all-region, team MVP, European Tournament MVP and Female Athlete of the Year. She played her club ball for  Vfl Sindelfingen in the 2. Bundesliga.

Jasmine Pinter is a freshman forward from Baltimore, Md. Pinter played for the Pointers of Sparrows Point High School and scored 12 goals and with three assists helping the team to an undefeated record of 17-0. She was a two-time member of the all-state team and captain of her club team, the Baltimore Bays, who finished fourth in the state.

Emily Sanders is a freshman defender from Coram, N.Y. who played her high school ball at St. Anthony's High School. Sanders helped lead her squad to a 12-0 record last season and two Catholic School State Championships. She also played on the US National Futsal team.

Kali Schindler is a freshman midfielder from Marlboro, N.Y. Schindler played her high school ball for the Dukes of Marlboro High School.

Nicole Solicito is a freshman goalkeeper from Stony Point, N.Y. Solicito played for the Raiders of North Rockland High School, who were ranked 24th in the state, and helped lead them to a 14-1-3 overall record and a run in the state playoffs.
