No. 1 Seeded UMO Women's Soccer Advances To Championship Semifinals

MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina– The top-seeded University of Mount Olive women's soccer team toppled the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan University 3-1 in the Quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas Championship at Amon Field Saturday afternoon in Mount Olive, N.C. The win secures the Trojans as the host for the rest of the championship slated to begin Thursday, November 14.
 
Game Information
The Trojans scored late in the first as Jaelyn Brown pushed home the game's first goal in the 36th minute. Mount Olive went onto score one more goal in the 42nd as Emily Sanders floated a shot from 40 yards out into the right upper 90. UMO took a 2-0 lead into the break and nine minutes into the second half the Trojan's Jasmine Pinter made it 3-0 to put the game out of reach.

Southern Wesleyan was able to prevent the shutout and get a goal in the 73rd minute but could not complete the comeback and Mount Olive took the 3-1 victory.

 
Trojan Leaders
Mount Olive was led by Jaelyn Brown who had the game-winner for UMO on four shots, while Emily Sanders added a goal and an assist to the contest. 

Taylor Lewis (11-0-3) in goal for the Trojans recorded one save on a solo shot before she was replaced by Nicole Solicito in the second half. Solicito recorded four saves on five shots.

Warrior Leaders
Southern Wesleyan was led by Natalie Thompson who had the lone score for the Warriors.

 
Up Next: Mount Olive will now host the semifinals and championship match at Amon field next week. The Trojans will take on the No. 4 seed Limestone on November 14 at a time TBD in Mount Olive, N.C.
