No. 1 Seeded UMO Women's Soccer Advances To Championship Final After Overtime Thriller

MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina– The top-seeded University of Mount Olive women's soccer team took down the No. 4 seeded Saints of Limestone College 1-0 in overtime in the semifinals of the Conference Carolinas Championship at Amon Field Thursday night in Mount Olive, N.C. The win secures the Trojans a spot in the Championship Final for the second time in program history Saturday, November 16.
 
Game Information
The Trojans and Saints were in a deadlock battle as they exchanged blows for two periods with neither team giving an inch or a goal. Limestone outshot UMO in both segments of play 12-to-6 and 7-to-4 and extra time was needed.

Mount Olive put pressure on the Saints midway through the first overtime and Sara Berglund was able to find Jaelyn Brown. Brown created a bit of space on the near side and blasted a shot to the right upper 90 and the LC keeper guessed right, but it was too late as the ball tickled the net and Mount Olive took the 1-0 win in extra time.

 
Trojan Leaders
Mount Olive was led by Jaelyn Brown who had the game-winner for UMO on two shots, while Sara Berglund added the assist and had a shot in the contest.

Taylor Lewis (12-0-3) in goal for the Trojans recorded six saves on six shots remaining perfect in between the posts.

Saint Leaders
Limestone was led by Danielle Murray who had six shots in the game for the Warriors.

 
Up Next: Mount Olive will now go into their second-ever Conference Carolinas Championship Final as the Trojans will take on the No. 2 seed Belmont Abbey on November 16 at noon in Mount Olive, N.C.
