Women's Tennis Opens Season With Win Over NGU

Mount Olive began its quest for another record-breaking year Friday afternoon, defeating North Greenville 7-2 in Conference Carolinas women's tennis at the Walker Tennis Center.

The Trojans (1-0, 1-0 CC), building on a season that saw the team set new standards in victories and claim a share of the Eastern Division crown, swept the Crusaders (0-2, 0-2) in singles play, giving up just a single set in the effort. Maite Belloso helped the Trojans win five of six in singles play by rallying for a 2-6, 7-5, 10-4 win at number five. Muriel Adib accounted for the Crusaders' lone win at number four.

In the top three positions, Molly Lentini, Francesca Ceppi and Roxanne Chouinard won in straight sets as did Paulina Delgado at number six.

In doubles play, the Southeast Region's seventh-ranked tandem of Ceppi and Lentini defeated Susane Lenz and Maggie Elliot 8-4, while Chouinard and Belloso won at number two 8-2.

Mount Olive returns to action Saturday when the Trojans travel to Chowan for a 1 p.m. start.
