Mount Olive won two-of-three doubles matches, but Queens rallied with four singles wins to defeat the Trojans 5-4 in Conference Carolinas women's tennis Friday at Charlotte, N.C. Francesca Ceppi and Paulina Delgado both posted wins at singles and doubles for the Trojans.
Mount Olive (5-3 overall, 2-2 Conference Carolinas) took a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Ceppi and Molly Sue Lentini won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, while Paulina Delgado and Samara Paldinho posted an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles.
Ceppi won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Delgado won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6 singles. But Queens (5-2, 2-1) posted wins at Nos. 1, 3 and 4 singles to tie the match 4-4. And the Royals took the victory with a three-set win at No. 5 singles, the third set decided in a tie-breaker.
Mount Olive returns to action Sunday as the Trojans play host to Pfeiffer in a Conference Carolinas match-up. Match time is 1 p.m. at Walker Tennis Center.
