For the second time in three days, the outcome was decided by the final singles match and for the second time in three days, Mount Olive came up on the short end as the Trojans fell to Pfeiffer 5-4 in Conference Carolinas women's tennis Sunday at Walker Tennis Center.
Mount Olive (5-4 overall, 2-3 Conference Carolinas) trailed 2-1 after doubles play. Francesca Ceppi and Molly Sue Lentini won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles to get the Trojans on the scoreboard.
The Trojans tied the match 3-3 as Ceppi won 6-0, 5-7, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Roxanne Chouinard posted a 6-2, 7-6 win at No. 3 singles. Paulina Delgado's 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles put Mount Olive on top but Pfeiffer (9-3, 5-0) won at No. 4 singles to even the contest.
Pfeiffer's Briana Oliver won the final five games of the second set for a clinching 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles.
Mount Olive fell to Queens 5-4 Friday in a match that was tied 4-4 with one singles contest remaining.
Mount Olive returns to action Wednesday as the Trojans play host to Barton in a Conference Carolinas match-up. Match time is 3:30 p.m. at Walker Tennis Center.
